Could these SEO trends impact your website?

SEO is ever changing and it is important to keep up and stay on top of new algorithm releases and changes to search engine systems. From the huge local SEO change to the Penguin 4.0 update – 2016 has been a huge year for SEO compared to previous years. But the question is, have you changed with these updates?

We are coming to the end of the year, let’s look over this year’s huge developments in SEO and what 2017 could possibly mean for your website!

What SEO trends happened in 2016?

Penguin 4.0

Penguin 4.0 was released just last month, with the ability to penalise sites using frowned upon tactics such as spamming search results and buying links. On the 27th of September, this update was rolled out in all languages and made changes visible faster than ever.

Mobile Optimisation

We are way past the tipping point with desktop vs mobile users. Mobile is the clear winner, but have you prepared? So, it is not a matter if it is important anymore – we know it is! Google released an update in April 2015 which was labelled ‘Mobilegeddon’ due to its stricter rules on mobile friendly sites. To put it simply, if you weren’t mobile friend – you were guaranteed to drop a few rankings.

Local SEO

Local SEO trends undertook a big change this year with the narrowing of Local business listings from 7 to 3, with a more cleaned up look. This makes competition harder to get on the local listing – is your company struggling to make it into the top 3? Contact TRON today!

What’s in store for 2017?

SERP

Google has been experimenting with lengths of Meta descriptions however, this is yet to be rolled out.

Voice Search

With the new release of Googles new phone, Pixel which is the first google product to include ‘Google Assistant’ this may indicate where Google may be delving into further. This would mean that content creators and SEO specialists will need to adapt their work to voice search. If this does happen, it will ultimately change the way keywords are employed. Hardly anyone speaks how the write – there is a clear difference. For example, when speaking we tend to use longer sentences and ask more questions, this will be key if voice search does become more popular next year.
